I have a confession to make: I’ve fallen into a book box addition and I don’t think I can get out of it.

I mean, that’s not a completely terrible thing, right? There are a lot worse things I could be into like CrossFit or avocado ice cream. (That was a joke, CrossFitters).

Book subscription boxes have exploded in popularity over the last few years. And for good reason. Who doesn’t love getting a surprise in the mail that’s not a student loan or tax bill?

These monthly subscription boxes have grown from a simple envelope with a book, and maybe a bookmark, to serious productions. You can find book boxes that have everything from exotic coffees and snacks to crafted goodies and toys.

The fun of these is that you don’t always know what’s exactly in them to start. When I got my first few boxes (reviews coming soon, I promise) I was so excited to rip into them and see what was there.

Sure the book is the primary focus, but sometimes you can get some really awesome stuff which makes it even better.

Over the last few months, I’ve been compiling a huge list of monthly book boxes. The purpose has been two fold. First, well to grab these goodies for me and to share them in a big post.

Once I started looking for these boxes I realized you kind of have to do a lot of digging to find them, especially a few of the real gems.

So, buckle up and get your credit card ready. Below, you’ll find the first section of my book box list. As I add more to my spreadsheet I’ll update here too.

Quarterly

Quarterly has a couple of book boxes going on their site. You can choose from the Literary Fiction Box or the YA Literary Fiction Box.

These boxes have an author who curates them and you’ll get three books each quarter. Along with the books, the boxes will include writer’s annotations from the author, as well other bookish goodies included.

Price: $49 per quarter plus shipping

Bookishly Tea and Book Club

Sometimes, all you want to do is sit in a cozy nook, open a book and read while sipping some of your favorite coffee or tea. Sounds like a dream, right?

The Bookishly Tea and Book Club is here to help make that happen. This is one of the simpler (and more affordable) options out there. Every month, you get a vintage book and a pouch of tea or coffee (your choice).

Price: £9.00 per month plus shipping

Owl Crate

If you love YA (Young Adult) fiction — which by the way isn’t just for young adults — Owl Crate is one of the most popular monthly boxes out there.

With Owl Crate, you’ll get one brand new hardcover YA book each month plus 3–5 extra items that will revolve around the book’s theme. There’s also a good chance of getting handmade and exclusive items as well.

Price: $29.99 per month plus shipping (3 and 6 month options are also available)

Ninja Book Box

Book boxes aren’t only US based and Ninja Book Box shows how UK based book lovers can reap the rewards of a subscription box service too.

One thing that sets the Ninja Book Box apart is it has a deep focus on independent authors. So the books you’ll get aren’t off the shelf best sellers but some awesome authors waiting to be loved. Each box features one book plus two gifts around a theme and an invite to their book club to chat about the book.

Price: £29.99 per quarter (annual options available)

The Cozy Reader Club

The Cozy Reader Club is all about giving readers their ‘me’ time back. Who can argue with that?

The box features a recently released hardcover novel. But that’s not all. It also comes with a selection of local coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, and gourmet handcrafted treats for you to enjoy while reading. Plus, you’ll get a few handmade items that tie in with the theme of the book.

Price: $64.95 per month plus shipping (3 month options available)

The Bookish Box

Full disclosure, I have my first taste of The Bookish Box coming in the next few weeks. This box revolves around a theme and is aimed at ladies who are into reading.

Each month, you’ll get a book plus a tee shirt and a number of home and beauty themed items around the overall book theme. The Bookish Box also provides options for with or without the goodies and tee shirt sizing.

Price: Varies depending on what you get, but for everything, it’s $39 plus shipping (3 month options available)

The Bookworm Box

This box was started by Colleen, who is an author herself and has chosen The Bookworm Box not only as a vehicle to spread the love of reading around but to also donate the proceeds to charity. So you can feel extra warm and fuzzy while reading.

Each month, you’ll get two books that were both autographed by the author, plus lots of other bookish goodies and swag.

Price: $32.99 with shipping

Boxwalla

If you love being completely surprised by finding new and old authors from around the world, then you’re probably going to love Boxwalla.

For Boxwalla, variety is the spice of life and the books, goodies, themes, and even prices of this monthly subscription box changes depending on what’s offered. At the minimum, you’ll get two books (sometimes more) based on a theme and an insert about the books.

Price: $29.95 to $49.95 per month (can vary)

Your Audiobook Club

Wait, you can have audiobooks delivered to you every month too? Why yes you can. Welcome to Your Audiobook Club.

If you prefer absorbing books through listening, this might be the perfect monthly box for you. Each month, you’ll get two audiobooks delivered to you (via CD) from a genre of your choosing. Simple as that.

Price: $9.99 per month plus shipping

Lit Cube

Lit Cube offers two different monthly book boxes. You’ve got your standard Lit Cube box which is built around a specific theme and sends you a book (old and new or a variety of genres) around that theme plus some useful swag items like pencils, lip balm, and socks.

Then there is the Stars Hollow monthly box. If you’re a fan of the show Gilmore Girls, this box is for you. It features a monthly theme inspired by what ‘the girls’ and characters who live in Stars Hollow.

These should be enough to get you started. Over the coming weeks, I’ll add more plus my reviews of a few of these book boxes that I’ve bought for myself.
