What happens when you hit ‘the wall’ (and how to get unstuck)
One of the greatest feelings in the world is progress.
I’ve left perfectionism behind! Nothing can stop me. I’m cruising, to six figures and my beach house, baby!
And then, boom. Stuck [insert Suez Canal boat joke].
I hit the wall.
Hard.
I wasn’t making progress. I couldn’t grow my business. I didn’t even want to think about it.
All that not thinking about it caused me to think about it all the time.
I felt more anxious and guilty with every second of inaction and perceived failure.
It sucks.
The bad thoughts come, maybe I’m not cut out for this. Maybe I should go back to a 9–5.
I was in the valley of dispair.
Seth Godin calls this “The Dip.”
He wrote a book about it.
Most people hit this point and try to figure out if they should give up.
